Boucheron has some of the most amazing pieces of jewelry on planet earth. They are creative, push the boundaries of design, and have an opulence scale that is out of this gem-osphere. Boucheron does all that yet are extremely fun and flirtacious at the same time.
The ‘Queen of the Night Necklace’ by Shaun Lane is no exception, this necklace continues to wow me, even after oggling at it dozens of times. It’s also blossoming with jewels as it’s gold flowers open and close. The blue sapphire buds wrap around the neck like a sexy edgy secret garden vine and open to unleash the white diamond and ruby flowers within. I mean SERIOUSLY!!! Below is a little blurb on it from The Gem Standard.
Shaun Leane was commissioned to create a one-of-a-kind item for Boucheron’s 150th anniversary in 2008 and there is an interesting story about where the inspiration for this came from. Leane was having lunch at the Parisian Boucheron headquarters with the head of PPR, François-Henri Pinault, to discuss this project and saw a portrait of the Countess of Castiglione on the wall. It turns out that the countess had lived in the building in the 19th century and was a bit of a recluse, only leaving the apartment in the darkness of the night. The flower ‘Queen of the Night’ only blossoms at night and so was the basis of the piece. The necklace contains mechanisms that allow the flowers to open and close.
